Throughout the festival, a network of Napa Valley communities, businesses, and non-profit organizations welcome visitors and encourage them to explore the arts, culture, and agriculture of Napa Valley. Annual Visual Art Competition The Visual Art Competition & Exhibit will launch the 2008 Festival. The competition is designed to celebrate fine art and support artists in their creative endeavors. Artists may submit works which depict the seasons, faces, events, history, and agriculture of Napa Valley, as well as works of their own choice. Quality of work will be the foundation of judging criteria. Traditional, contemporary, impressionist, and abstract two and three dimensional works of art are welcome.
Artists from throughout California are invited to enter. The tentative deadline for entry is January 9, 2008. The Napa Valley Mustard Festival Visual Art Competition Exhibit & Silent Auction will be unveiled at Mustard Magic, The Festival Grand Opening Event, on February 2. The exhibit will then move to St. Supéry Vineyards and Winery. The winery will host a wine and hors d’oeuvre Artists’ Reception for juried artists and the public on Saturday, February 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. St. Supéry will host the Exhibit from February 9 through March 30. For more information call 707.938.1133. > Mustard Magic Photography Contest The Napa Valley Mustard Festival Photography Contest celebrates mustard in bloom, Napa Valley’s star attraction in late winter/early spring. Wild mustard blooms, depending upon the whim of Mother Nature, from about mid-January through March each year. Brilliant seas of gold blanket hillsides, valleys, and vineyards during this sensational season. Dormant grapevines punctuate the gilded froth in rows and patterns, creating spectacular scenes and attracting artists from far and wide.
The deadline for entry was March 23, 2008. The Napa Valley Mustard Festival’s Grand Finale, The Mumm Napa Photo Finish, to be held on the evening of March 29, features a Photography Contest Exhibit and Sale each year. The Photography Contest Exhibit at Mumm Napa will run from March 30 through approximately May 2. > Photography
Contest Page Poster Art Since inception, the Festival has been promoted with original art made especially for that year's sensational season of events.
Artists who have created works for the Festival include Sara Barnes, Claudia Wagar, Dennis Ziemienski, Don Hatfield, Jessel Miller, Guy Buffet, Ira Yeager, Carlo Marchiori, and Lowell Herrero. Wagar's and Ziemienski's artworks for the Festival's second year and third years' posters were selected through competitions. Miller and Buffet were selected by the Festival to be "featured artists," and created artworks for three years each. Yeager was selected to create the artwork for 2004, and Marchiori was chosen for both 2005 and 2006. Lowell Herrero was recruited to produce the artwork for 2007. His painting, Vineyard Mustard, was featured on Festival merchandise and marketing materials; and his original painting was offered at Silent Auction throughout the season. Proceeds from the painting's sale benefitted Clinic Olé, whose mission is to provide accessible, affordable, quality health care to the under-served in Napa County. It was founded in 1972. New art for 2008 has been created by Jessel Miller ~ Click here to view. Napa Valley Mustard Festival posters are available for purchase through our online store, by calling 707.938.1133, and at
many local art galleries and tasting rooms. Fine art prints are generally available either signed by the artist, or unsigned.
