Press Release2005 Mustard Recipe Competition Winners
NEWS Award Winning Chefs Napa ~ The Awards ~ A Tasty Competition! was held on March 11, 2005 at COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts in Napa. Event patrons had the chance to meet world champion mustard makers, dance to live music, taste original mustard recipes by Napa Valley chefs, and help select the Napa Valley Mustard Festival's People Choice Chef of the Year. A panel of esteemed journalists including Gene Burns of KGO Newstalk AM 810's Dining Around with Gene Burns, Karola Saekel of the San Francisco Chronicle, and Linda Anusasananan of Sunset Magazine judged the Chefs’ Mustard Recipe Competition in a blind tasting session behind closed doors while the party-goers nibbled, sipped, and twirled. Their choice for Napa Valley Mustard Festivals Chef of the Year was Executive Chef Angela Tamura of ZuZu in Downtown Napa; her winning dish was "Dijon Roasted Leg of Lamb with Israeli Couscous Salad & Mustard Green Pesto." Executive Chef Peter Pahk of Silverado Resort in Napa was elected Napa Valley Mustard Festival People Choice Chef of the Year by the vote of event patrons; the dish which tipped the competition in his favor was his "Poke of Tuna & Ono on Biodegradable Silver & Baby Mustard Greens with a Rice Wine Vinaigrette."
