NEWS Napa Valley Mustard Festival Announces 2002 Visual Art Contest Winners Napa, CA ~ Winners of the 2002 Napa Valley Mustard Festival Visual Art Contest were honored at Mustard Magic - Une Soirée Française, the Festival's opulent grand opening held at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone on Saturday, February 2. Prize money of $3,500 was presented to first, second, and third prize winners, and guests had the opportunity to bid on artwork. Judges of the competition were Chester Arnold, Chairman of the Art Department at College of Marin in Kentfield; Mija Riedel, Director of Press and Public Relations at Susan Cummins Gallery in Mill Valley; and Heather Tunis, Director of Development at Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, judged the competition. Eighty entries were accepted into the juried show.
Prizes in the Flatwork category went to: First Place, Larissa Goni, for Anticipation Second Place, Anne Hysell, for Silent Gold Third Place was shared by John Elliott for Two Oaks and Shiloh McCloud for Our Lady of the Faith Honorable Mentions in the Flatwork category were awarded to Barbara (Bobbe) Huetter for Napa Valley Patchwork; Cedora Scheiblich for The Mushroom Hunters; Katherine Greene for Second Passage; Judy Theo for Reflections; and Claudia Wagar for Aube.
Prizes in the Three Dimensional category went to: First Place prize went to Robert Gauthier for Le Vase de Bois Jaune Second Place to Marcia Smith for A Strange Shadow Ran Through Your Eyes Third Place to Martin Munson for 2001.05 Hang Nail Honorable Mentions in the Three Dimensional category were given to Bryan Tedrick for Colonel Mustard in the Kitchen with the Knife, and Tom Collins for True Friends. Artists were toasted at an afternoon artists' reception held at Kirkland Ranch Winery on Sunday, February 10, a highlight of Napa Valley Mustard Festival's Weekend of Fine Arts, presented by Napa Valley Museum and dozens of galleries throughout Napa Valley on the weekend of February 9 and 10. Entries in the 2002 Visual Art Contest were displayed at Kirkland Ranch inery, One Kirkland Circle in Napa, through April 13, 2002.
